Here are some common things you might see at a park. Repeat each word out loud!
- Swing – You sit and go back and forth.
- Slide – You climb up and go down fast!
- Seesaw – You go up and down with a friend.
- Bench – A place to sit and rest.
- Tree – A big plant with leaves.
- Flower – A pretty, colorful plant.
- Dog – A furry friend that says “woof!”
- Ball – You can throw and catch it.
- Kite – It flies in the wind on a string.
- Cloud – White and fluffy in the sky.
Great job! Now you know ten new words. Try to point to these things the next time you go to the park. But wait, there are more things to see at the park! Let’s learn some more words.
- Duck – A bird that swims in water. It says “quack quack!”
- Pond – A small lake where ducks and fish live.
- Sandbox – A box full of sand where you can dig and build.
- Monkey bars – You hang and swing from bar to bar.
- Tire swing – A swing made from a tire.
- Picnic table – A table where you eat outside.
- Bicycle – A thing with two wheels that you ride.
- Scooter – A toy with wheels that you push with your foot.

Making Sentences
Now let’s use our new words in simple sentences. These are easy patterns you can use every day.

A Little Story: Tom’s Day at the Park
Tom is a little boy. He loves to go to the park. One sunny morning, he says to his mom, “Let’s go to the park!” Mom says, “Yes, let’s!”
At the park, Tom sees a big tree and many flowers. He runs to the swing. He swings high. “Wee!” he shouts. Then he climbs the slide and goes down fast. “Again, again!” he laughs.
Tom finds a ball. He throws it and catches it. A dog comes and barks. Tom says, “Hi, dog! Do you want to play?” The dog wags its tail. Tom throws the ball, and the dog runs after it. They play together.
After a while, Tom sees a kite in the sky. It is red and blue. He says, “I want to fly a kite too!” Mom gives him a kite. Tom runs and runs, and the kite goes up, up, up!
Tom then walks to the pond. He sees two ducks swimming. He says, “Quack, quack!” The ducks look at him. Tom’s mom gives him some bread. Tom throws little pieces to the ducks. They eat and say quack. Tom is happy.
Next, Tom goes to the sandbox. He builds a big castle with a shovel and a bucket. He makes one tower, then another. He puts a flag on top. It looks great! A girl comes and asks, “Can I help?” Tom says, “Yes!” They build together. The castle becomes even bigger.
Tom is tired now. He sits on a bench with his mom. He drinks water and eats a snack. He sees a butterfly land on a flower. It is yellow and black. Tom whispers, “Beautiful.”
Tom is very happy. He says, “I love the park. I can play, run, and have fun. The park is my favorite place!”
